About E2

Hi, I’m Liz. Welcome to my site!

I am an avid homebaker living in Brooklyn, New York. I love developing and baking simple, straightforward recipes and experimenting with new ingredients and the chemistry of baking. It’s the only chemistry I’ve ever remotely understood!

  1. Who or what is E2? E2 is my dad’s nickname for me. My older sister, Emily, is E1, and my little sister, Eliot, is E3.
  2. Where are you from? I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. I majored in Media Studies at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, before moving to New York in 2007 to attend a conservatory-style film program.
  3. What do you do for a living? I am a personal chef. I also make and deliver cookies and celebration cakes.
  4. How did you learn to bake? Nobody, with the exception of my dad, baked in my house growing up. My grandmother made amazing biscuits and chocolate cake (more on those later), but didn’t pass on any recipes. I learned to bake by reading food blogs and then experimenting. The first recipe I “mastered” was vanilla wafers. I made them over and over until I got bored and decided to try chocolate wafers. And then I decided I better learn to make a few more things…and the rest is history.
  5. Who are your favorite food bloggers? I read about twenty food blogs regularly, but I do have a few that I really love. For baking, I adore Sally’s Baking AddictionJoy the Baker, and Dinner with Julie. For everything else, I go to Smitten Kitchen.
  6. How often do you bake? Anywhere from 3-6 days per week. Baking is my favorite thing to do, and my primary form of stress relief. It’s very hard to be anything other than happy when you are rolling cookie dough.
  7. What is your favorite thing to bake? It changes weekly. Lately, I have been obsessed with shortbread cookies.
  8. Do you like to cook? I love to cook, but I don’t do too much of it these days–as you might imagine, standing at the stove is the last thing I want to do after spending all day in front of the oven! I make a lot of eggs for myself, and simple dinners once or twice a week. Being a Texan in New York, I love to make Tex-Mex.
  9. What are you into beyond the kitchen? Movies. All of my higher education has centered around film production. I love gangster movies and everything Nora Ephron ever did. I once had a Martin Scorsese-themed house (yes, really). I treat the Oscars like most people treat the Super Bowl. So basically, if I’m not in the kitchen or hanging out with friends, I’m catching a matinee or playing Siskel & Ebert with my friend, Tad.
  10. How do you maintain your weight while baking all the time? The short answer is that I share or give away most of what I make. You can read about my relationship with food here.

Have a question? Send me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to answer it!

Wow! I don’t do any baking… but I can see your talent. And your blog is super-cool 🙂 The chocolate mint magic bars look like the tastiest thing ever. Please send some to my flat in London 😂

    Merry Christmas E2! From S1 🙂
